    'Supergirl' actress Chyler Leigh opens up about her sexuality: 'It's been a long and lonely road'

    "Supergirl" star Chyler Leigh is opening up publicly about her sexuality in a blog post on Monday.

    Leigh, who plays Supergirl's adopted sister Alex Danvers in the hit TV series "Supergirl," wrote an essay, obtained by Yahoo and Entertainment Weekly, reflecting on how her character coming out as a lesbian in Season 2 of the CW superhero show inspired her own self-acceptance.

    "When I was told that my character was to come out in season 2, a flurry of thoughts and emotions flew through and around me because of the responsibility I personally felt to authentically represent Alex's journey," she wrote on the website for Create Change, an organization she co-founded in order to "help you become the change you want to see."

    "What I didn't realize was how the scene where she finally confessed her truth would leap off the pages of the script and genuinely become a variation of my own," Leigh wrote, according to Yahoo and Entertainment Weekly.
